World's cultural heritage, Miyajima and Itsukushima shrine.

The Holy Island Miyajima has been known as the resting place of the Gods since ancient times.

The pavilions of Itsukushima shrine was rebuilt in the Shinden-zukuri architectural structure by the “Taira no Kiyomori” Warlord in the late Heian era, the lacquer coated Otorii gate rising up from the sea with the spiritual mountain Mt. Misen as the background helps create a ethereal world atmosphere.
If you will visit Mt. Misen which is listed as World cultural heritage and walk around the area, you will be able to deeply understand the nature which has been the object of worship for the protective deity of the Ocean from anciant times, and get to know the local culture of Itsukushima.

Useful Visitors Information

At the Miyajima Pier, bicycle rentals and wheelchair services are available.  Upgrade sightseeing packages are available. You can enjoy the Yakata-bune cruse on the bay area of Torii gate of Itsukushima shrine. You can also climb the Mt. Misen summit via the ropeway route where you can enjoy the fantastic scenery of the seto island sea.
