Enjoy flowers blossoming during the rainy season and the glow of fireflies at night. Hydrangea and iris flowers blossom in the rain, and fireflies do a light dance at night. Enjoy the wonderful views of the rainy season.

Fireflies

Stars enjoy the light of fireflies in the cool evening. Best time: middle June - late July

Mountainous areas in the prefecture have many nice spots to enjoy the glow of fireflies, such as Yuki Spa, popular among people in Hiroshima City, Shiwa-cho in Higashi-Hiroshima City, and Kuchiwa-cho Firefly Park in Shobara City. Various events are held in these areas in June and July, when you can enjoy the fantastic light of flying fireflies. It is important to continue protecting nature so we can enjoy fireflies who can only live near clear streams.

Jinguji Temple

Jinguji Temple(Kurikara-cho Fuchu City)

This ancient temple is also called the “Hydrangea Temple”. 80 species of 3,000 hydrangea flowers color the space in light purple during the Hydrangea Festival held between June 7 and 28. The temple also has a museum exhibiting more than 10,000 pieces of old living ware, giving you a taste of history.

Togouchi Flower Road (Akiota Town, currently Aki Ota Town in Yamagata District)

The flower road stretches 9km along ROUTE 191 at the bottom of Mt. Shinnyu. Approximately 3,000 blue, white, purple and pink flowers are visible from your car. They start to blossom at different times due to differences in elevation, allowing you to enjoy the flowers longer.

Yano Hot Spring Park Shiki-no-sato(Joge-cho Fuchu City)

The iris park, which also has a Japanese garden, is filled with 500 species of 100,000 flowers, such as Japanese, German and other kinds of irises. You can enjoy tea time and beautiful flowers during the Iris Festival held from June 12 to 20.

Sankei Garden

Sankei Garden(Hongo-cho Mihara City)

The 6 hectare Tsukiyama Chisen Circuit Style Garden was created with motifs of valleys in the mountains and views of the Inland Sea in Hiroshima Prefecture. The nature zone is covered with 14 species of 2,000 iris flowers. The flower festival is an annual feature during the rainy season.

Graciously floating on the river with bonfires

This is an annual summer event in Miyoshi City, which has continued for more than 440 years since the Eiroku Era. Fantastic bonfires burn on the riverside as night falls, and cormorant fishers skillfully control their birds with ropes during their traditional fishing. It’s very elegant to feel the pleasant breezes from the river and enjoy the ethereal historical atmosphere.
