2010 Innoshima Suigun Festival

Innoshima Suigun Festival attempts to recreate Murakami Suigun (naval force), which was flourished as pirates based in Innoshima area from Nanboku-cho period (known as the Northern and Southern Courts period) through Muromachi period and Civil war period in Japan. The festival is made up of three different parts.
At the island festival, the opening of this 3-parts festival is declared, and the meaning of this festival is explained. They pray for the success of the Suigun festival, and also show the appreciation to their ancestors.
At the fire festival, 100 maritime warriors with armors are on stage holding up the torches. Dance contest called Torakumai contest (Torakumai is a dance that used to be performed by island's residents to celebrate the victory of Mizushima force.), Suigun Jin Taiko (drum performance at the battlefield), and the skyrocket of fireworks will be performed.
At the sea festival, visitors can enjoy "Kohaya boat race" with battle ships called "Kohaya" which was used in maritime force period. In addition, you can experience the ship "Kohaya" by boarding on the small ship, and stroke the oar by yourself.
Appropriately for the home of Murakami pirates, this festival reminds people the period of brave Murakami pirates.

Traveling from the direction of Honshu; it takes approximately 5 minutes from Innoshima-kita I.C.
Traveling from the direction of Shikoku; approximately 10 min from Innoshima-minami I.C.

Take a bus at JR Sanyo Line Onomichi Station, bound for Innoshima Habu harbor (takes 37 min) and change the bus at the bus stop "Kanamebashi", and take a bus (this bus is running on a route in island) heading for Ohama and get off at "Suigun castle entrance"(approx.8min), and walk for approx. 10min to the destination.

Traviling from the direction of Shikoku; it takes approximately 15 min from Innoshima-minami I.C. on Shimanami-Kaido

Traveling from the direction of Honshu; take a bus at JR Sanyo Line Onomichi station bound for Innoshima Habu harbor (takes 25min) and get off at the stop "Innoshima Ohashi", and about 10 min walk.
Traveling from the direction of Shikoku; take Shimanami Liner and get off at "Innoshima Ohashi" and about 10 min walk to the destination.
